Bohemian Cinema at SXSW 2009

Tags: , ,

After a hiatus, I’ll be back at SXSW this year. My family was kind enough to provide the funds for a Film Badge (hurrah for birthdays), and this year I’ll be attending nearly the entire festival, as opposed to 3 or 4 days like I did for SXSW 2007 (this includes the film portion that continues after the music section has begun). I wish I had the means to attend some of the Interactive section of the festival, but alas, I’ll just have to miss out on the likes of Merlin Mann, John Gruber, and Jon Tan.

The first time I attended the festival, I had an absolute blast, so I’m expecting more of the same. I look forward to seeing films from Joe Swanberg, David Lowery, and the whole post-Mumblecore extended family, but I also plan to watch movies that are normally out of my general area of interest, so if you’ve got any suggestions, drop me a line, or even a tweet. Speaking of tweets, I will be using Twitter (@pacheco) during my time in Austin, if that interests any of you. I won’t be live-tweeting throughout any films (tacky!), but I’ll try to post bits of interest throughout SXSW. More importantly, I’ll be reviewing the movies I see (and my general experience) on this blog, with some content also spilling over to Edward Copeland on Film, and, who knows, I might even have a review up on The House Next Door.

I’m heading to Austin on Saturday and will begin watching flicks that evening, all the way until the end of the festival (the 21st/22nd), only taking breaks to see family (my sister) and for keeping the Sabbath (from sundown Friday until sundown Saturday, which is why I’m beginning my festival experience on the first Saturday night).

So if you’re one of the cool kids who’ll be down for SXSW, be sure to give me a friendly, sincere greeting and a film recommendation as well. How do you spot me? Well, if you see on Twitter that I’m in the area, just look for the hair:

And if you think you’ve spotted Claudio Sanchez walking the streets of Austin, it’s probably just me.

Here’s to watching good movies.
